The white-haired goldenrod specifically is endemic to the Red River Gorge, occurring nowhere else in the world. The Red River Gorge spans at around 29,000 acres which has been designated as a National Natural Landmark and National Geological Area where cliffs soar up to 200 feet high! Within the geological area, 13,000 acres are also designated as Clifty Wilderness, adding further protection to some of Kentucky’s rarest flora and fauna. The Red River Gorge is an intricate canyon system featuring a perfect blend of sandstone cliffs, rock shelters, waterfalls, natural bridges and lush woodland. Nestled in the lush Daniel Boone National Forest lies the wild Red River Gorge Geological Area.
